Don’t Be Put Off By Wedding Decor On A Budget

Budget wedding decor can be every bit as effective as much more expensive alternatives.

It might seem a bit overwhelming to start with. But when you consider that there are only two venues that
need decorating, the planning can be broken down into manageble chunks.

Reuse Your Budget Wedding Decorations

If you plan things well, and especially if you have a themed wedding you can have the decorations from your ceremony transported and arranged at your reception all in good time, with your guests none the wiser.

Incorporate Nature In Your Wedding Decorations, On A Budget

If you are lucky enough to be having your wedding somewhere picturesque then why not empasize the natural beauty. Find ways to incorporate the natural decor, like having a ceremony outside, or allowing outside views from open windows or doors.

Use Flowers In Your Budget Wedding Decor

So what are the other sorts of decorations you might consider?
Well, flowers are an ever popular choice, and these needn’t cost much. There are several ways to save money here.

Assuming you have planned your wedding well in advance, you will have plenty of time to grow your
own flowers if that is possible for you. If you need to buy them, then choose a local supplier over a more distant one to save on shipping charges.

You should allow yourself plenty of time to shop around, and don’t be afraid to haggle over the price.

The worst that can happen is you get a no – and that’s no big deal.

Some Budget Wedding Decoration Ideas

Depending on the theme of your wedding (if you have one) don’t be afraid to include some natural items too (it’s free).
For example, shells or driftwood, or even using old tree branches (cleaned & sprayed a color of your choice is popular).
Depending on the time of year, look for things like holly, pine cones, even sweet peas (so easy to grow and they smell great).

Use your imagination and ask around for ideas, you might live in a part of the country that is ideal source for some natural budget wedding decor that you hadn’t even considered.

Use balloons, they are cheap and come in loads of colors and shapes. They are an effective way to make a big impression, as long as they are used well (with restraint – tasteful – not tasteless).

If you shop around it is possible to find rolls of cheap fabric that you can use in a variety of ways. The most striking is hanging fabric from the ceiling (although this is only useable in certain venues).
Use fabric as table coverings, incorporated in centerpieces, and if you are feeling adventurous, making into fabric flowers etc. Fabric ties a color theme together really well.

Don’t forget using candles too as they are relatively inexpensive and they do create a good atmosphere. They come is so many shapes, sizes, and colors that you are bound to find somewhere to effectively incorporate them.

It might seem daunting to even consider doing your own budget wedding decor, but it really isn’t that difficult. If you feel stuck, then just go online and search for some inspiration. Google images is a great place to start. See what others have done and sketch a few ideas yourself, you might just be surprised at your creativity.

Wedding Favors – How Sweet!

As you well know, wedding favors are small items given by the bride and groom to the wedding guests as a sign of appreciation.
Many years ago in Italy (it is believed that this is where the tradition started) expensive boxes were given, not only were the boxes expensive, so was the contents – sugar. These favors (or bonbonniere as they are still commonly referred to) were meant to express the wealth of the couple.

Of course, when planning a budget wedding, it’s budget wedding favors you will want. So here are some gift ideas that we hope can help, and also show that a cheap wedding favor doesn’t have to look cheap.

Traditional Sugared Almonds

If carrying on that original bonbonniere theme appeals to you, over 700 years ago the original sugar contents of these box favors changed to what was called confetti. No, not a box of paper shapes, but sugared almonds (Jordan almonds). These are still popular today as wedding favors and are a great way to give inexpensive gifts that have great history and meaning. You give five sugared almonds that represent health, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity.
Here is an inexpensive box we found you could put the almonds in : weddingfavoursworld.com/Love-Design-Tin.htm
and here is a great place to get your almonds : jordanalmonds.com

Guys Like Favors Too…

It is a good idea if you decide to give a feminine wedding favor (like a compact), that you also cater for the men. As you will know your guests, you will know what they might or might not appreciate.

Don’t Leave The Kids Out

Also, if you have invited any children, don’t leave them out, kids love presents (and it might keep them occupied for a while). Here are some ideas : littlethingsfavors.com/chwefa1.html

Personalized Budget Wedding Favors

Another gift idea is taking an inexpensive item and giving it a twist. For instance, get some Hershey’s miniatures with your own personalized message :
foreverwedstore.com/category/Mini_Hershey_Chocolate_Bars.html
or even get some personalized miniature labels to attach to your guest’s favorite tipple :
justaglass.co.uk/personalised-miniatures-104/wedding-favours-100/
These are just a couple of the many personalized wedding favors available. Have a look here for lots of other ideas :
weddingfavorsunlimited.com/Personalized_Wedding_Favors.html

Budget Wedding Gifts Galore

There are so, so many more; like (scented) candles, (scented) soaps, photo frames, coasters, mirrors, compacts, keychains, paperweights, fridge magnets, cookie cutters, luggage tags, bookmarks, and letter openers.
Here is an example of some more cheap gift ideas:

giftsandotherwise.com/shop/traditional-unique-favors-c-266.html

Only Spend What You Budgeted For

If you have made an accurate budget wedding planner, you should be able to see how much money you have allocated to the wedding favors. Now to find out how much you can afford per person all you need do is divide the total money you have set aside by the amount of guests you expect. It’s not going to matter too much if you end up with a few left over favors, better too many than too few.

How Important Is Your Wedding Cake?

Depending on your point of view, dictates how much of your budget you’re willing to spend on the cake. For many people the cake is the centrepiece and THE essential wedding decoration, but for others the cake is just one small part of the wedding package. No matter how much importance to put on the cake, if you are planning your wedding around a strict budget you need to decide just how much you are going to spend on your budget wedding cake.
<!--Dream Wedding on a Budget–>

How Much Are You Willing To Pay?

A ready-made cake can cost anything from $250 to well over $1000, but if you decide to do it yourself you can slash the cost dramatically. This can really make a big difference if you have a lot of guests to feed. This article assumes you want to take the latter route, and create the cake yourself (after all, you do want to save money don’t you?) Okay, so you have decided how much you are willing to spend on the cake. Now you need to think of its size, design and type.

Choose Something Appropriate

Do you have a wedding theme? Something to tie in the cake design. Maybe you have decided to have a tropical theme. If so, then creating a heavy, 3 tiered fruitcake, for instance, wouldn’t really go with that theme. Not only that but the ingredients in a fruitcake make it one of the more expensive options. Whatever type of cake you can think of, you can turn into your wedding cake. Sponge, pavlova, marble, battenburg, gingerbread, lemon, cheese, carrot, black forest, you name it. Lets face it, if the cake looks great and tastes great, it doesn’t matter what it’s made from, there are no rules that you must follow. Just pick one that appeals to you, then arrange who (maybe an eager and capable family member) will make the cake. Get the ingredients and decorations for it all in good time so that nothing is forgotten.
Anyone with a bit of imagination can create wonderful budget wedding cakes.
For cake decorations try cakesbysam.com and justcaketoppers.com for starters.

If you are having trouble with how it should look then search online for ideas, or look through magazines etc for inspiration. Remember that some cakes (like fruitcake) can (and should be) be made well in advance, while others are obviously going to spoil within a short time, depending on the type. So arrange the day you make the cake (and provide for transport to get it to your venue if needed) carefully.

Two Cakes Are Better Than One

If you are concerned about the possibility of having a cake making disaster and ending up without any at all, don’t fret so much! You can always get two cakes made (this doesn’t have to be expensive), one as a (cheaper) backup in the event your main one meets with disaster. On the day, you will then have two cakes (because the chances things will go horribly wrong are very slim) and you can then use the backup as the groom’s cake (as is common in South America).
If your budget allows and you really don’t want the hassle of making a cake, then choose a local baker and negotiate a deal. Otherwise, be adventurous and create your own masterpiece. A cake that will live in people’s memories as the best wedding cake they have ever seen, or tasted.

You Can Look A Million Dollars

Your wedding dress should make you feel wonderful, the center of attention. And it IS possible to have the dress you want on a budget of just a couple hundred dollars, or even less.
On average about 10% of your total wedding budget goes on the brides attire. This can include a lot of items, it depends on what your requirements are, but the main one should be the dress or gown. The other considerations include shoes, veil, jewelry (and other accessories), undergarments (which can include slip, lingerie, petticoat). When you start seriously looking you will find cheap wedding desses everywhere.

If you are prepared to look, there are bargains to be had (many of them online). As an example, here are a few that we found with just a quick search (we have shortened some of the longer URLs as some of them are stupidly long).
romanticgowns.com/collection/product-page.asp?SKU=J801W
this gown is only $99 (a $600 saving!!).

lightinthebox.com/A-line-Strapless-Floor-length-Satin-Wedding-Dress–YCF123-_p13985.html – another for only $99.

http://goo.gl/NqzJp – a new dress for under $60!!
<!--Dream Wedding on a Budget–>

eBay Wedding Dresses – Why Not?

How about searching for wedding gowns on a budget on an online auction like weddingdressauctions.com/
(haha you thought it was going to be eBay didn’t you) – but why not try eBay?
Here are a couple of eBay budget ‘buy nows’ as an example:

http://goo.gl/3NqVE

http://goo.gl/tjS1s

Note that these are from China, now we wouldn’t say steer clear of these, but if you do decide to buy from a vendor in China, go for a top seller. Be absolutely sure exactly what you are buying (material, color, size, etc). Contact the seller to clear up any questions you might have. And look out for any hidden extra costs (read the sales page carefully), check the shipping costs. eBay wedding dresses can be fantastic deals.

You can also try manolobrides.com/bridalauctions.html This site lists designer wedding dresses currently being sold on eBay.
For example, how about a brand new Vera Wang wedding dress for $307? – http://goo.gl/Xp5lC

(Due to a lot of these links being to auctions – some links might be dead now. But, these were found without too much searching – so I’m sure you can find some cheap wedding dresses of your own easily.)

Don’t Neglect Local Sources Of Cheap Wedding Dresses

<!--Dream Wedding on a Budget–>
When you also consider you can look locally, maybe a nearby bridal store has a sale on, or department store might have a clearance of stock, you have a lot of potential choices.

Do you sew? Or do you know anyone who does? There are loads of wedding dress patterns available, e.g. http://goo.gl/3jEop for just a few dollars. Imagine, you could design your own wedding dress…
This would probably only suit someone used to dressmaking, but there are plenty of people out there that do, maybe you know (or know of) one? You can buy bridal satin in many colors (only about $5 per yard) – check out eBay - e.g. – http://goo.gl/a0P7d

Have You Considered Second Hand Wedding Dresses?

Who knows, you might even have a relative with a fantastic wedding dress just hung up in a closet. Why not ask (casually include it in a conversation)? A quick clean and some minor alterations and you could have a real budget wedding dress. Second hand wedding dresses can be real money savers.

Good luck with your wedding dress. If you start looking early, and don’t leave it till the last moment, you are very likely to find an affordable, attractive dress that will make you feel like a million dollars.

Is it normal to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding that could be going to something else?

I am planning a wedding for next June, and I have a very strict budget of $12,000 for everything. Although, our financial situation isn’t great. My fiance and I live with my parents and we have an 8 month old daughter. We plan on staying with my parents until we save up enough money for a down payment on a house and finish college. My fiance is currently making only $13 an hour (about $2000-$2500 a month depending on his monthly bonus), plus health benefits etc. It’s horrible for supporting a family (which is why we live with my parents), but not bad for a college student. My mom is paying for a little less than half the wedding, and her financial situation isn’t bad. The house is paid off, and my mom is very good at saving money. The reason I am asking this question is because so many people spend even $75,000 on a wedding when it’s obvious that money can be going towards better things! Even for a doctor, that’s over half of a year’s salary. I feel like this $12,000 could be going into our savings for a downpayment on a house; we live in California and we plan on getting a house in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, so houses are very expensive here. BUT, I also feel like if I do not have this wedding that i’ve always dreamed of I will always regret it. I also feel like with all the help we’re getting from my parent’s we will still be able to save the money for the down payment by the time we finish college and are able to get a stable career. Please give me your opinions!! Thanks.

Some people want the fairytail wedding with all the bells and whistles, and it costs a lot of money. Practical people know that a big amount of money for one day (if its a bit of a financial squeeze) seems to be foolish and the money could be better used, like the down payment on a house. But don’t be put off from having your dream wedding on a budget because it can be done with a bit of forethought. Get everything on paper, split all the wedding catergories up and prioritize them in order of ‘most important’ (to you) down to ‘not essential’, then assign a budget you are prepared to spend on each element. Sure, you can juggle the figures about to suit yourselves, just don’t go over your total budget. It is your choice, however, one thing I would caution on though is don’t get into debt paying for your wedding. You really don’t want to be still paying for your wedding day 12 months after it.

Planning an eco-friendly wedding- any hints and tips?

I am planning my wedding- the date is Sept 16, 2012.
I want it to be as ECO FRIENDLY and environmentally friendly as possible on a TIGHT budget. Our budget is $3500- we don’t have to pay for the hall, tables, chairs, or minister. And our DJ is already paid for, too.
So, we have to do everything else, including caterer, for $3500- our caterer quoted us $1500, so that leaves us $2000 for everything else.
I want to use seeded invitations (plantable invites) and plantable seeded favors. Any links to websites with this sort of thing on a budget would be great!
Also looking for an organic cotton wedding dress for less than $600.
Looking for organic rice paper lanterns for decorations, and anything organic eco friendly to decorate with, give for favors, or wear…

Any hints, tips, and website links would be great!!

THANK YOU!

Small backyard wedding ideas?

We’ve been thinking about having a very small wedding with just our immediate family which would be around 20 adults and about 12 children. Actually first we wanted to have a “big” wedding and then we were thinking about going to City Hall and now we’re thinking about this lol. Our house isn’t big enough to hold this many ppl so I was thinking about asking my brother if we could have it at his house. I’ve actually never been there but I have seen pictures (he recently bought it).
Our budget will be $2000-$3000. We haven’t decided.
Some ideas we already have:
Having my sister in law officiate the ceremony or having JOP do it.
No walking down the aisle or anything traditional like that (because its so small).
Rectangular tables put together so we can have one long table (so everyone is sitting together).

http://www.mayweddingflowers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/pink-centerpieces1.jpg

Music = Ipod
Food = We really want to have carnitas (braised or roasted [often after first being simmered] pork in Mexican cuisine) but my future sister in law does not eat pork. So what can we do here? Make something different for her?
Cake = My uncle makes cakes but since we’re not inviting him, I don’t want to ask him to make the cake. So we will go to a local bakery. We want a cake like this but we haven’t decided what color flowers. http://media.theknot.com/ImageStage/Objects/0003/0036071/large_image.jpg
Photos = We do plan on having a professional photographer. I feel this is important but I also know this is where most of our money is going towards.
Anyways do you guys have any other ideas? suggestions? what am I not thinking about?

Top answer:

You are well on your way to hosting a nice wedding on a small budget. Nicely done! Just reading over your post, I have some comments/suggestions:
You should still have a aisle or ceremony area. The ceremony is the important part not the reception! And you want good pictures of you getting married. Look in the backyard and see if there is an area that stands out like an arbor or a pretty tree. It doesn’t have to cost you anything, but it should give you a good backdrop for your photos. If you want to add decorations, tie ribbon to tree branches or hang lanterns.
During the ceremony, are you going to have your guests stand? Even for a short ceremony (15 minutes), your guests are probably going to want to sit. You could make very basic benches from wood at Home Depot and give them a quick coat of spray paint to match your wedding colors.
Buy glass vessels in bulk for simple chic centerpieces to go down the center of your long table. You can get roses for cheap at Costco (crazy I know) or at a local flower market. I don’t suggest using garden flowers. You don’t want to have all of the bushes or flowers in the garden cut down. The garden is basically a pretty decoration that you didn’t have to pay for!
Ipod – remember to put music for the ceremony, cocktail hour/eating and dancing on the iPod. Put on extra in case you need more of one type of music than you expect. Also, ask a musically inclined friend to be in charge of the iPod for the night. Lastly, don’t forgo speakers. You’ll be fighting ambient sound outdoors. If you don’t have speakers, you won’t be able to hear the music.
Good idea to go with an ethnic cuisine since it is often cheaper than traditional wedding food, but pork isn’t the most friendly option. You should provide another selection. A safe bet (if you want to still have the pork) is to give a vegetarian option. Cheese enchiladas? Or maybe a fajita station? You could have pork, roasted vegetables, chicken, rice and beans. You could have them all or just the items you like.
I’m a little surprised that your uncle isn’t considered immediate family. In any case, the cake you have chosen is very nice and would be easy to recreate. You won’t need your rounds to be as big since that cake could serve 150 and you only need to serve 30. You may want to get tea roses to surround the cake since they will be smaller and more proportioned to a smaller cake.
Have you thought about your bar? Beer, wine and a signature drink would be a good bet to save yourself money. Do you have a camera club or art college nearby? Sometimes photographers from clubs and colleges are only too happy to have the opportunity to take photographs of events like weddings.

Anyway, best of luck and I hope your day goes great.

Wedding photography?

I am planning a 4-26-12 wedding. It’s going along very nicely, and it’s turning out to be very inexpensive due to a lot of connections I have. For example, my dad is a member at the hall where we are having our receptions, so we get a 50% discount.

Photography is the one thing I don’t have taken care of yet. The places I’ve looked into START at $2000, and that’s without the prints. There is no way we can afford to spend that much. Our parents are already helping as much as they possibly can, so asking them is out of the question.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get quality photos that don’t put us WAY over budget? Thanks!

Top answer:

First thing…..DO NOT HIRE A PHOTOGRAPHER UNLESS ALL OF YOUR NEGATIVES AND/OR HIGH RESOLUTION PRINTS ARE INCLUDED! This is not negotiable.

Now, on how to save.

1. Start by cutting out time. I mean, do you really need professional pictures of you putting on your makeup beforehand? I think any of your friends/family could do that just as well. Do you need all 5 hours of the reception photographed? Other than the big moments all the pics of Sue dancing with Joe, then Joe with Mary, now Mary with Sue….etc start to look the same. Schedule your majors like the first dance at the beginning of the reception then let the photographer go home. In some cases people actually get more comfortable without worrying that embarassing dance moves will be forever captured on film…

2. Look for talented amatures. Post an ad on craigslist, check out graduate students at the local art college and photography club. Check them out the same way you would a pro. Get a contract, ask to see their portfolios, etc. If you are still worried then strike a deal with a student and let him/her take engagement pics (or some other social event you attend). Then if you like the work then you can offer the wedding job. Don’t be afraid to ask any friends or family if they want to photograph the wedding too.

3. Ask for a discount, or to tailor the package to suit you. The worst they can say is no. Seems simple, but cutting out things like digital effects on your photos will save you money. You can also try to play them against each other like a car dealership. Stroke their egos. Well “so and so was offering the same package for 1500 but we really enjoy your work, can you match that?” then call up So and So and do the same. And remember, if you don’t like the deal, walk away.

Don’t Forget The Centerpieces

With everything else you have to organize for your wedding, don’t forget about the table centerpieces. Choosing the right wedding centerpieces on a budget can be a chore if you go about it without proper forethought. But it doesn’t have to be difficult, and the results can really impress. Good, eyecatching centerpieces can really raise the occasion, as well as provide a talking point at the tables.

So, how do you go about choosing appropriate centerpieces?

Does your wedding have a theme? Even just a color can be a theme – there is no need to get everyone dressed up as characters from your favorite film (unless you want to, that is).

The easiest way to get started is to look online (e.g. Google images). This can certainly give you inspiration and should get your creative juices flowing. Just don’t get put off. Centerpieces, cakes, even wedding dresses are not the sole property of commercial manufacturers.

The most popular types of centerpieces incorporate flowers and/or candles. And the reason why they are the most popular? They work. If you can find local wild flowers then try to incorporate them into your own design, this can make you some good savings. Even cuttings from shrubs and herbs can add volume and extra substance.

Candles can be purchased fairly cheaply, even scented ones, with a little imagination you could create a floral centerpiece around a candle (just don’t burn the place down).

If you want to purchase ready made flower holders it might not work out too expensive, it depends on how many tables you have. For instance, a set of ten 24″ Clear Wedding Centerpieces Eiffel Tower Vases will cost $55. These can easily be filled with some overhanging foliage, you could even put a scented floating candle in too.

Edible Wedding Centerpieces On A Budget

Some wedding centerpieces are edible. These are usually made from vegetables, fruit or chocolate although anything can be used with a little imagination. These can take a while to assemble, but can work out quite cheap. The easiest method is to use create a decorated fruit basket, otherwise use skewers, and combine colors and textures to create tasty treats. How about bowls of chocolate dipped strawberries?

Mirrors Are Effective In Wedding Centerpieces

If you don’t want your guests eating your table decorations then there are plenty of other ideas. How about using a mirror or two?. Place a mirror on the table and put something elegant on it, like a small vase holding a single rose. You could also use some candles on this too. The mirror adds the illusion of more, it is very effective. The use of colored stones in vases is a good cheap idea, the stones could be some you have collected from a beach or you could buy cheap colored glass stones to match your theme.

More Isn’t Necessarily More

Remember, not all wedding table centerpieces have to be exuberant, grand, oversized decorations. Many people prefer to talk to others at the table, not peer round an excessive centerpiece. So choosing something under a foot or so in height can also be practical as well as potentially cheaper.

Don’t forget the use of other decorations that can be incorporated into centerpieces, like ribbon, confetti, dried flowers, artificial flowers, toys, shells, balloons, lanterns, etc. There are also seasonal items you can use like fir cones, holly, pumpkins, tree branches (especially effective if sprayed gold or silver).

Just remember not to overdo this, class not crass!

Lastly, if you decide to use flowers you may want to check on the their meanings. It’s a personal thing and probably doesn’t count for much, but you never know! Would you use rue (an evergreen shrub) if you know its meaning was ‘regret’? Hmmmm maybe not.

Does anyone have ideas for wedding food menu on a tight budget?

So I’m planning (hopeing) to get married in Sep. 2011 which is basically 3 months away, and have not really thought about the food menu =/! I know! We are planning on it being a small wedding reception in our back yard with at the most 70 guest with a food budget of $300-$400 (more in the $300′s), I really need your guys opinion on any kinda food you can think of, maybe even food I can make days or weeks before the big day?

I was thinking:
Egg rolls or lumpia (ordered)
Pancit (ordered)
Chicken wings (home made)
Chips and salsa
Fruit salad
This is it so far but this food as you can see doesn’t really go together lol so I really need your thoughts and help!
Thanks for taking you time to help out!
You can put small smoked sausages and meatballs in BBQ sauce or meatballs in spaghetti sauce, cheese and crackers, finger sandwiches, different salads ( potato, macaroni, fruit and green). You could go with mexican foods (make it a theme) like enchiladas, rice and beans. Or Chinese - the pancit, cabbage, carrots, onion, soy sauce, served with the chicken wings. Concentrate on bulky, filling, ingredients (rice, potato, noodles, etc) if you are worried about guests not getting enough.

Don’t worry about it being fancy or expensive. You will be suprised just how much you can get for $300 if you choose the foods carefully. If people care about you enough to come to your wedding they will be there to celebrate your special day, not to get a cordon bleu feast. In truth, the only ones that make a big deal about wedding food are the ones supplying it, the ones eating it are more caught up in the whole event to be overly concerned with the food.

Any ideas for food at my wedding reception?

I am on a tight budget for my wedding and I would like to have a very simple reception. I would like to have just cake and snacks for my reception, not an actual meal. There wil be about a 100 people in attendance at my wedding. All family, no friends, no coworkers, just family. So hopefully they’ll forgive the tight budget. Any ideas about snacks that I can serve. I am willing to cook, clean, whatever. But I do have to feed them a little of something. Any ideas?

top answer:

You could try a “pot-luck” style arrangement. Have family bring a dish from home to serve at the wedding. This way you go broke trying to feed everyone, and everyone will at least like something they ate – because they will have prepared it.

You never stated your food budget, but having a buffet style is far cheaper than a sit down meal. Think how many meals that were served at weddings never get fully eaten? That is just money going down the drain in reality. At least with a ‘help yourself’ arrangement all the food is available to everyone. Choose cheaper alternatives like meatballs, sausage, even chicken. Add plenty of fillers like salad, pastry, pasta, etc. Cheaper foods don’t have to be boring either, you can easily provide many different dishes that deliver a whole host of flavors. Hot & cold dishes, use herbs and spices. Quiche & flans are popular, cheap, and easy to make. Really the alternatives are endless. Decide on your available food budget and on how much one person can eat and (in your case) multiply it by 100. All you can do is your best, if you organize your reception with love, others will pick up on it.

Undecided About Your Budget Wedding Venue?

When deciding on where to have your wedding ceremony there is no need to feel obliged to have it in a church (not that there is anything wrong with a traditional church wedding).
For those looking for a wedding venue on a budget, somewhere not too expensive is important. Luckily there are loads of possible venues to choose from.

On average about 10% of the wedding budget is spent on the ceremony (this is much less than the reception, which can easily account for over half of your total spend). Even so, every saving is vital, and saving a few hundred dollars on a budget wedding venue will help a lot.
<!--Dream Wedding on a Budget–>
It helps if you know (as near as possible), how many people will be attending your wedding. Always look to book a venue that will comfortably accommodate all the guests you invited, don’t ‘hope’ a venue will be suitable only to find out on the big day that guests are squeezed in like sardines.

Somewhere Local Would Be Nice

Do you know anywhere local that, in your opinion, would be a suitable venue?
Is your home big enough to host the wedding, do you have a willing friend or relative with a suitable property?
Maybe there’s a manor, mansion, golf club, hotel, museum, theatre, country club, spa, resort, park, restaurant, conference center, college, university, courthouse, lodge, or similar that would fit the bill(And your pocket)?
These have all been used as great budget wedding locations by others.

If The Weather’s Great – Take Advantage Of It!

There is no need to restrict yourself to an indoor ceremony (unless you are planning something like a winter wedding in Manitoba!), and if you live near a suitable beach…
Beach weddings are very popular (great if you live in Hawaii) but if in doubt as to the possible weather on the day, always have an indoor venue ready as an emergency backup.

Don’t Stop At The First Budget Wedding Venue You Find

Don’t be tempted to jump at the first cheap place you find, although money is an issue when looking for budget wedding venues, you want to spend some time checking out everything that is available. Maybe you want a particular theme at your wedding, that could play to your advantage if you choose an unusual venue. A place not used to hosting weddings (and hiking prices because of that), is more likely to be cheaper. Budget wedding venues don’t have to be second rate by any means.
Look around long enough and you will find the ideal location at the right price.

Accept Suggestions, But Don’t Be Pushed Around

Unless you have your heart set on a particular wedding, then prepare to be creative, and open to suggestions and ideas. But don’t, whatever you do, be persuaded to something that you really don’t want. There is no harm in being flexible, but you must draw the line somewhere.
Your wedding is primarily about the two of you, and your happiness must be paramount.

What type of things can you do yourself for a wedding?

My fiance and I are trying to think of ways to cut our wedding budget and we’re thinking of making our own invitations but what other ideas are there on doing things yourself for your wedding? What did yourself for you wedding like making your own wedding invites?

Thank you in advance.

top answer:

This is how we saved money on our wedding

- We make our own invitations

- With the help of friends and family we did our own decorating.

- A friend is did our photography.

- One of the bridesmaids worked at a grocery store that had an awesome floral department. So she got us a great deal.

- We shopped around for our wedding venue for the best bang for our buck. ( food and all for approx 150 people was about 3 thousand)

- We’re made our own favours

- we cut down our guest list a bit.

- A close family member baked our cake and a friend decorated it.

- We didn’t hire a limo or rent a fancy car.

- we didn’t staying in a hotel

- The dress was a hand me down

Decorations, invitations and favours are great DIY projects. I would possibly leave the food, flowers, and cake to people who know what they’re doing (it really depends on your budget). Anything that can’t be done a few weeks in advance I would pass off to another person. If you have friends who can help you out, enlist them. A friend of mine did our pictures and she saved us over a $1000. People want to help you so don’t be afraid to ask, they will love to be asked and get involved.

Centerpieces are super easy to do, and fun. Just make sure it’s something easy for the person assigned to assembling them. You can buy lots of wedding decorating books or use the internet for easy projects.

top answer:

We’re having our wedding on a budget of £3,000. We’ve got 40 people coming to a registry office ceremony, and we’ve having our reception in the function room at a lovely local pub.

We’re doing the decorations for the room ourselves, opting for balloons rather than more expensive flowers. The table decorations are crystals from eBay which worked out at £10 for loads of them. See this website for a pic.

Also, I’m making my own veil – it’s a birdcage veil so rather than spend £90 on buying something from ETSY or eBay, I bought my own netting and flower and am going to have a go at making it myself.

We’re getting a lift off of my parents to get to the venue, not bothering with a car.

Also, making my own wedding cake. As it’s fairly informal, we’re going for the hungry caterpillar but making red velvet cake with green icing, it’ll be fun I think.

For invites, I got them from vistaprint, they do a great selection and really reasonable. You can choose the finish and paper too.

Also, for the wedding dress I got mine from Vivien of Holloway, it’s a gorgeous 50′s style dress which is in keeping with the general theme of the wedding.

You do need to get these out quickly, and my recommendation is to not worry about clever sayings. Most people don’t include these in invites, simply because the people getting them are primarily interested in date, time and location. That’s all they’ll need and it’s all they’ll remember. You can put sentiments elsewhere if you want to express them – in the vows, on programs if you want those, as a toast to each other, etc.

Absolutely not…just make sure your invitations clearly state what time the reception starts, don’t mention the dinner…that is your way of spending intimate time w/ those closest to you and your fiance’

Practising wedding Invites?

I have bought 100 ivory great quailty card with stationary pictures of wedding cakes, cars, wine bottles etc to put on front and also Weddidng invitiation gold stickers and Evening Invites too. Ive jsu done 1 for practice and it looks great and has a personla fell to it, to say ive made the effort, so to speak. The thing is i don’t know what the hell to write inside the card or if i should write at all. Im going to be doing over 100 of the invites and i don’t fancy writing inside all of them. What do you suggest? I was thinking of typing the wording (ineed ideas on what to write too) in fancy font on computer then copying them onto card and sticking them inside the card! What do you think? Or have you any ideas/ I don’t fancy printing straight onto card as im scared of messing it up no matter how much practice i have. Im trying to do everything myself as we are on tigh tigh budget (uk( and want to contribute as much as i can. Thanks alot (very stressed bride to be)
I can spell thanks!!! Just i have had a operation in my eye and i find it diffucult to see the letters. Thanks for been so rude. Evil Bitch!!!!

I made all of our wedding invitations and I’m really glad I did – they looked great.

They did take forever to do though, so when you’re half way through and you want to give up, don’t! All the effort is worth it.

For the inserts I went to Staples and bought a ream of this really nice cream paper that looked a bit parchment like (I know …. My description is rubbish). When I printed and folded it it was a little smaller than the outside of the card, and i glued just the edge that was going in the fold so that when you opened the card you then had to ‘open’ the insert. I hope that makes sense! It looked great.

We had the following wording:-

Love fills a lifetime
and a lifetime begins this hour
when the two of us
{brides name}
and
{grooms name}
begin a new life together in marriage
on {date} at {time}
at {venue}

Followed by a reception at {venue}

The names of the guests and the rsvp went on the left hand side of the insert.

Try one like this and see what you think. You might have to try a few before you know exactly how it’s going to be.

Best of luck
